Over the years, we’ve had lots of fun bringing the stars to Boston for the WODS Summer Concert Series. The Beach Boys, KC & The Sunshine Band, America, 3 Dog Night, Eddie Money, The Everly Brothers, The Temptations, Kool & The Gang… so many amazing free concerts! So we only have one question.
Beach Boys 2009 Summer Concert

How many can I pick? And is WODS only going to hostg 4 or 5 concerts again this summer? Wasn’t it 6 or 7 concerts 10 or 15 years ago??
Anyways, here are my suggestions: Monkies, Peter Noone, JOHNNY RIVERS, 3 Dog Night, Beach Boys, Everly Brothers, America, Frankie Valle (only if he’s going to be healthy, energized and sing his hits in their entireity!) I’ve seen two Frankie Valle concerts- the first time he was absolutely fantastic. The second time he was horrific! Didn’t completely sing all of his songs and didn’t move around much and didn’t show much personality

I have been going to these concerts for over 20 years. I think my favorites were Paul Revere and the Raiders, Gary Puckett & the Union Gap, The Beach Boys …………. Just too many now that I think about it. I must say that some of the older groups just can’t hit the notes anymore. The Temptations last concert was terrible. They talked more than sang. David Cassidy was the worst ever. I think that you should have an 80s band to celebrate the arrival of the 80s. How about the B-52s or Huey Lewis? Whoever you have I know I will go. Keep up the good work.

January 29, 2011 9:35 pm
I’d love to see Rod Stewart!!! Others that would be great are Aerosmith and Boston! Also the Doobie Brothers, Chicago, The Guess Who (with the Canadian lead singer they had last time; wow!), Leonard Skynard, and Peter Noone. An opening band from your area called Help would be great! KC and the Sunshine Band is always a thrill as are the Monkees! These would be a great improvement from last year’s concerts, which left me disappointed after driving two hours for the shows.

Oh, and I forgot to mention Lionel Ritchie for sure!! And I agree with people suggesting Eric Burdon, the Turtles and what about Foreigner?
Kathy
January 29, 2011 5:07 pm
I would LOVE to see Smokey Robinson & Gladys Knight with the Pips again!! They were THE BEST I’ve seen at all the concerts over the years.
Another suggestion that would be great is Hall & Oates. There’s no one like them & they don’t get the credit they deserve. If you’re looking for “Happy & Upbeat” I would say Tavares, Peter Noone, Felix Cavalieri & Rascals, The Beach Boys and as other people said below TONY ORLANDO!! I never got to see 3 Dog Night & would love to. There are SO many great bands & I think everyone below has mentioned them all including Air Supply, America, Heart & Little Anthony & The Imperials … awesome. I liked the Go-Go’s, too. Too bad the Supremes aren’t together anymore & also as someone mentioned, Peter Cetera AND Chicago … whoa, that would be one heck of a night!!
We need some new opening acts though … some of them have worn out their welcome over the years now. How about Englebert Humperdinck? Is he still performing?
How about Jerry & The Pacemakers? Peter & Gordon? Let’s go back to 10 concerts each summer … or at LEAST lucky 7!! (Five or 3 don’t seem like a summer’s worth.)
THANKS!!
Bob
January 29, 2011 12:57 pm
To get a forth concert how about one that features Paisley Project, Ernie and the Automatics and John Cafferty. To give them 40 minutes each you would have a great concert. They were better than the groups that they played before last year. We have traveled two hours for every concert since the last time the Monkees were here and were not impressed with the headliners last year. Any touring bands from Britain like the Peter Noon and Herman’s Hermits, the Kinks, Dave Clark Five, and the Zombies. Other groups to consider are Steppenwolf, Peter Frampton, Eric Clapton, The Guess Who, The Doobie Brothers, Chicago, CCR, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kansas, would be great. A Beatle tribute band could be an opening act.

I would love to see Tony Orlando perform for the summer concert series. I have seen him perform in both indoor and outdoor venues, and I have never been disappointed with any show. He sells out every show and when performing in an outdoor venue he packs the house. His band is phenominal.

January 24, 2011 8:59 am
With the addition of the most recent lead singer of The Guess Who [who were great in 2009, with his voice], the Beach Boys concert last year was in the “10 best ever” category – please try to bring them back. Of course, Chicago is always welcome. and America never disappoints. Try adding Grank Funk – they are still in good voice and put on a solid show. The full-blown Stylistics ensemble put on a great show recently at Scullers [just ask JJ - he was there]. However, it’s time for KC and Felix to give it up – I hate to not go to the Esplanade on a warm summer night, but they just aren’t worth the trip. Thanks for the great summer entertainment over the years!

Hi there, This will be my 9th year going to WODS Free Summer Concert Series (Yes I was late to the game but I am also only 22!) My first concert there was Brian Wilson. WHAT A GREAT SHOW! and he’s only gotten better. How about putting together a Beach Boys with Brian Wilson concert. How amazing would that be? If at all possible… Incredible. Another concert that I think would be absolutely amazing would be my favorite band of all time the… The Bee Gees. Yes I do not know their price or if they would even perform together for that one show. But I know Robin Gibb still frequently tours! Please try and find out! Tommy James was great and has been missed. 60′s British Invasion is great stuff. Frankie Valli was awesome. 3 Dog Night has played there way too much! and so has with KC! You do play the 80′s now which could mean even more possibilities for even greater concerts. Duran Duran? Popular 80′s bands night like they did with a tour. CYNDI LAUPER! TOM JONES! EWF! BILLY JOEL! ELTON JOHN! (MOST LIKELY WAY TOO EXPENSIVE) QUEEN with Paul Rodgers! Just keep them going and bring back the 5 concerts back because 3 is just too short! (I know I’m greedy.)
Sallie

I`d love to see the Beach Boys again. It seems like every other year you`ve had them and this would be the year, and from what I read on line Alan Jardine wants to do a Reunion with Brian Wilson included now that would be a show. I`ve seen these guys around 20 times and never in all those times was Brian present. None the less another visit from the Beach Boys one way or the other would be just fine.

Any of the groups still around would be great like Guess Who, America, Beach Boys, WAR, Three Dog Night. Diana Ross is excellent as well. Any of the Motown Groups still around are always great.
I go to all the concerts around Boston, so anyone you can get is always a favorite of mine. I just LOVE the summer concerts and always schedule my vacation around them. I’d love to see you return to 5 concerts instead of 3, but I know money is tight for everyone.

January 30, 2011 10:16 am
Definitely would travel to see Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons! Frankie still has a great voice and the sound never gets old. With Jersey Boys playing to sold-out crowds around the world, The Hit Men (former 4 Seasons) booking concerts around the country, and The Mid-Town Men (original Jersey Boys cast members) playing to sold-out concerts, it certainly makes sense for WODS to book Frankie Valli this summer!! Can’t wait.

FRANKIE VALLI!!!! It has been way too long since the last time Frankie Valli has done a WODS Summer Concert. I remember him saying on your stage in 2005 he will come back for as long as we want him too. He came back 2 years later & that was it. Especially with Jersey Boys in Boston now… it would be FABULOUS to see the REAL JERSEY BOY this summer
Ronnie Renna
January 20, 2011 8:05 pm

Hi Ronnie, Yes he has been my favorite my entire life!! I remember the 1st time he was @ the WODS concert I want to say 88-89. It was the 1st time I asked a guy on a date to go with me. I WAS SO EXCITED I WAS FINALLY GOING TO SEE FRANKIE VALLI…LIVE!!! 1st another girl shows up to go with us, then they took forever to get going… then she didn’t want to stay in the large crowd &… they MADE ME LEAVE after 1 song!!! I was sobbing as I could hear “Under my Skin” echoing off the buildings. I had no way to get home so I had to go with them. Now … I go by myself to see Frankie
Linda
