103.3 WODS congratulates our own Dale Dorman on his induction into the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame this Thursday!

Dale has been a part of Boston Radio for the last 43 years and is also a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Please post a message to Dale below on his induction and share any memory you may have of “Uncle Dale!”

massbroadcaster Dale Dorman To Be Inducted Into Mass Broadcasters Hall Of Fame

From www.massbroadcastershof.org:

Boston has had its share of exciting rock ‘n’ roll disc jockeys, but Dale Dorman is its legendary master craftsman. With his lightening fast reflexes and a gift for genuinely clever patter, he did what few others have ever done — he remained a force and a positive influence on radio and music for 45 years.%name Dale Dorman To Be Inducted Into Mass Broadcasters Hall Of FameDale Dorman Photos It all really began when he was starting out in Syracuse in 1964. He sent a tape to an up-and-coming programmer named Bill Drake at KYNO/Fresno who was gaining a national reputation for his unique style of broadcasting. Drake liked what he heard, hired Dale, and under his tutelage Dale became part of an approach that revolutionized popular music radio.

Dale was a master craftsman of rock ’n roll and Boston listeners were the beneficiaries. His local career included extended stays on WRKO (1968-1978); WXKS-FM (1978-2003); and WODS (2003-2008). In its day, WRKO was considered somewhat of a radio monster, boasting Dorman in morning drive. It was practically unthinkable back then that AM radio would be vulnerable. But as Dorman recalls, “We knew FM would take over, just because of the quality sound of the music. We had long discussions about that and also owned an automated station [WRKO-FM, later WROR] that played Oldies.” One day at a meeting, Dorman suggested that management flip WRKO-AM to WRKO-FM and let WRKO-AM do Talk. “The music sounded great in stereo on FM,” he says. The rest is history.

Dale, You’ll always be the greatest thing to happen to radio! You worked that studio monitor like the throttle on your Harley. Folks, there ain’t NOBODY that can throttle a monitor to the beat like Dale can! Loverboy’s ‘Workin’ For The Weekend’ went from
0 to 165db inside the studio at Kiss in exactly 3:41sec every Friday at 5pm. Ah..memories.

The greatest broadcaster on Radio! Congratulations to you Dale Dorman and thanks for the memories! My memories of Dale go back to teenage years listening to him on WRKO. Fast forward to my children listening to Uncle Dale. However my greatest and fondest memory goes back 25 years when I called to ask him if he help us raise money by coming to our first Olde Yankee Craft Faire at St. Mary’s in Winchester and without hestitation he did. He didn’t have to but he did. The kids were excited to see Uncle Dale and our fund raiser was a success.

Hi Dale, Congratulations you are great and I miss you. Back in the 70′s I did a few TV shows with you on the Bob Hilton Show.

Dale…I am a former DJ in NH (60′s and 70′s) and used to listen to you on RKO. You were always fun to listen to and I even stole some of your lines for my shows…I figured you wouldn’t mind. Lots of memories of other B-Town guys like Bruce Bradley on BZ etc. Radio isn’t the same anymore..personalities don’t seem to count, but you stand out as one of the best! Congratulations…well deserved!

Congrats Uncle Dale. This is Carol from Saloon D’Italia of years ago. You are so deserving of this award for your years of service.
I am still with you after all these years. I started listening in 1970 when you were at WRKO. Best of luck my friend.

Hi Dale, congratulations on such a wonderful honor that you so justly deserve! I used to listen to you when you were on WRKO and I had a small transister radio that I would hide from my brothers so that I could pick the station. Thank you for all the great memories. Diana Wong-Pellegrino
